Irfan Čengić was elected Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo in the special elections in October 2023 and re-elected in the regular local elections in October 2024. Before that, Mr. Čengić was a representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2018 to 2022, Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton and a delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH 2022-2023. His political involvement began in the Municipal Council of Stari Grad Sarajevo, where he spent a total of six years (2010–2016), including two years as Deputy Chair of the Council. Throughout all levels of government, Mr. Čengić has consistently advocated for concrete projects, legislative initiatives and policies that contribute to the development of local communities, the protection of the most vulnerable groups and the modernisation of municipal administration. His leadership as Mayor is based on accountability, transparency and development, with strong support from citizens.
