 The Fifth NALAS General Assembly Meeting - “EU Integration – Challenge for Local Governments in South East Europe” - took place in Istanbul, on 10 and 11 December 2009. This event was organized with the support of the Union of Municipalities of Marmara.
A truly international event: Over 100 mayors, executive directors, experts and guests from all over the world participated at the workshops and plenary session of the NALAS General Assembly. |
Two round tables took place on the first day of the General Assembly. The focus of the first round table, named “Involving local governments of SEE in EU integration process”, was put on lessons learned from the new EU member states and collaboration between local authorities, local government associations and national governments in accession process. The second round table focused on “How to bring EU funding opportunities closer to the local governments in in South East Europe”.
In addition to the two round tables, a marketplace was set up on partnership for cross-border cooperation. Several existing partner databases were be presented and new project ideas and partnerships were encouraged.
