15/03/2024 We are thrilled to announce the initiation of the nomination process for the 2023 Green Champions of the Western Balkans! This prestigious award, launched under the auspices of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans Action Plan 2021-2030 and the Tirana Conclusions of the Local Self-Governments Forum 2023, aims to honor cities and municipalities showcasing exceptional commitment and innovative approaches to environmental sustainability, urban greenery, green growth, and eco-conscious initiatives.
As we embark on this journey to recognize the most deserving city/municipality that has excelled in implementing the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, we invite you to nominate candidates exemplifying dedication to environmental protection, preservation of natural resources, and promotion of sustainable living practices. Whether through green infrastructure projects, community engagement initiatives, or policies fostering ecological resilience, we seek cities/municipalities that serve as beacons of inspiration for a greener, more sustainable future.
Who can nominate? The Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South East Europe (NALAS) extend invitations to National Local Government Associations (LGAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), individuals, representatives of public and private institutions, civil society organizations, and regional and international partner organizations from the Western Balkans to nominate 2023 Green Champions of the Western Balkans in various categories.
Nomination Criteria and Categories: We welcome nominations for outstanding practices implemented in 2023 across the following categories:
- Decarbonisation
- Sustainable Transport
- Fostering community engagement and awareness on circular economy/environment
- Innovation and creativity in addressing environmental challenges – depollution
- Sustainable Agriculture Practices
- Commitment to environmental conservation and protection and Biodiversity
How to Participate: Interested parties can nominate their city/municipality by visiting the provided LINK and filling out the online nomination form. Nominations are open until 31 March 2024.
Selection Process: The selection process comprises four phases:
- Call for Nominations (until 31 March 2024)
- Administrative Eligibility Screening
- Evaluation Panel Review
- Final Event
